Though I now live and work in New York City, my time in San Diego at the Actors Alliance shaped what was to become The Actors' Enterprise. In 2002, I was brought on as Communications & Member Services Director at the Actors Alliance of San Diego, a non-profit service organization dedicated to the advancement, exposure and education of the San Diego theater artist. I spent 3 wonderful years at AASD, where I: • Co-produced the Actors Alliance Festival of Short Plays, a 2 week play festival designed to be a forum for actors to create and produce their own work for industry guests to attend. I worked with the festival staff in selecting 30-35 plays from over 60 submissions, dramaturging plays to tighten scripts, organizing and executing a general casting call for 75+ roles, and assisting producers in finding appropriate directors with their pieces. I also acted as the Festival's Marketing Director, managing all marketing, PR and fundraising efforts on behalf of this annual $25,000 event. • Co-produced the Actors Alliance All City Auditions, a city wide audition for professional actors in San Diego to be seen by every professional theatre in one audition day. I organized and ran pre-screen auditions for non-professional actors and children who wanted a slot in the professional auditions. I also taught headshot & resume workshops for participants to make sure their materials were as professional as possible. • As Communications Director I was responsible for all marketing, PR and community development efforts for the organization. Ultimately, the one question I was responsible for answering every day was, "How is AASD contributing to its community?" What a fun question to answer! •As Member Services Director I was responsible for making sure that AASD's members - the actors in San Diego County - got value out of their membership and felt like they were a part of a vibrant and caring community. I developed and strengthened membership benefits, instituted networking opportunities, and helped create a home for actors at our office/rehearsal space. While at AASD, our membership numbers nearly tripled, and member retention was at an all time high for their 18 years in existence.
